SPEAK OUT!
Contact the Health reporter of your local newspaper or television station.
Briefly explain that you have an incurable disease that is only obscured through ignorance. Give
a very brief description of what it is and how it affects you. Don't provide too much information at first - just
enough to generate their interest. If they decide to interview you, that's when you give them a more detailed description
of what RSD is, how it affects you & your loved ones, etc.
Be sure to include any informational resources you have, such as website addresses and telephone
numbers for further information, local support group meetings, online support groups, and where monetary donations can be
made to help find a cure. A good reporter will be sure to include at least one resource.
Final thought: Promote awareness, not a sob story. It will grab (and hold) a reporter's
and public attention much better if you speak about your of life with RSD in a way that doesn't seem like you're
asking for sympathy.
When you get that article published, be sure to send me a copy so I can post it to the website. :o)
